#NYCC- New York Comic Con 2013!!!

  NYCC2013cover2

The biggest comic con on the east coast is almost here!

ConventionFloorplanAnd I’ll be there to take in all the insanity of 120,000+ in geek masses!  Byron Wilkins (of 1977) and I, representing the Webcomic Alliance, decided if we’re gonna go to this show… GO BIG! And what’s bigger than being neighbors with MARVEL? Take a peek at the floorplan here to the right, and “marvel” (*groannn*) at our placement! The worry is no longer not being where the crowds are, but TOO MUCH crowds!

I am SO excited for this weekend, but also a bit stressed! Byron, that crazy old fart, is making as 12+ hour drive from Chicago to Philly on Wednesday, crashing with me, and then we head out to NYC on Thursday! As we have for the past 3 years, we are renting an apartment near the Javits Center (highly recommended way to save on accommodations in NYC, btw!), along with friends Marc LaPierre (SuperFogeys) and Tyler James (ComixTribe). NYCC has the potential to be a very successful con financially, but the new connections & friends I’ll make combined with seeing old friends/fellow creators and spending time with them after the show (Drink & Draw events, helllloooo?!)… that’s what makes all this stress worth it!

WHO will be there: Me, of course! With Byron Wilkins (of 1977)! Look for the Webcomic Alliance banner!

WHERE we’ll be: Javist Center, 655 West 34th Street.
Small Press Section on the Main Show Floor, Booth #1367. Across from MARVEL.

WHEN we’ll be there: Oct 10-13th 2013! Thursday through Sunday! The times are listed below:

  • Thursday, October 10, 2013 – 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Only open to Press, Professionals, VIPS and Fans that purchase a 4-Day Ticket or Thursday Ticket.

HOW to get in & survive the show: Unfortunately, if you don’t already have a ticket, the show is sold out. If you’re desperate, maybe craigslist, ebay or stubhub would be of help. This is the type of show you plan WAY ahead for! But if you DO have a ticket, be prepared for the crowds and chaos by checking out THIS page! Some great tips!

WHY you should go: Do I really have to answer that?

Okay, okay, for this! Premiering at NYCC– my NEW Ghostbusters/Ecto Cooler print!!!
(plus, you know, for the most panels, costumes, comics, celebs, movie previews and MORE at an east coast comic con!!!)

Haverford Day, Right at Home!

Haverford Day Map

Haverford Day Map

HaverfordTwnshpDay

It’s the annual Haverford day (sometimes called Havertown Day), this Saturday! Yep, right in my own backyard, I’ll be hawkin’ my books and merch, along with my friend craft-master miss Jenn Solderitsch of JennySold.com, in the craft fair section of this overblown block party extravaganza! Come on our for lots of food from local restaurants, or BBQ chicken cooked up by the firehouse, listen to

multiple bands play some rockin’ tunes, and wander the endless stream of craft vendors. Come early for the parade, stay for the random street acts like fire juggling!

I’ll have my usual stock on hand: Z&F books, figurines, buttons/pendants/magnets, the new T-shirts, as well as Abby books (now in hardcover too) and buttons. Plus, prints galore!

The parade begins at 10:30am, and everything closes up at 4pm. Be there! Bring your appetite, dancin’ shoes, and hopefully some extra cash for comic-y goodness!

Next Week! The BIGGEST Comic Con of the East Coast!

…. and I’ll be there, amidst the masses! Thursday Oct. 10th – Sunday Oct. 13 is the New York Comic Con, and I’m ready to be eaten alive by the crowds of 150,000+! My pal Byron Wilkins (of 1977) and I, representing the Webcomic Alliance with our respective comics and prints, will be on the MAIN showfloor in the Small Press section, booth #1367! More details to come next week on Wednesday (including the EXCLUSIVE NYCC print I’ll be selling!), but for now, I give you the floorplan. Can you believe it– we’re are right across from MARVEL… “THE” Marvel! I may not make it out alive!

Kim Belding Takes the Fanart Challenge!

FanartChall_Panel_KimBeld

ZFPanelFanArt_KimBeldingMr. Belding is ALWAYS up for the Challenge!

Kim is a relatively new friend via twitter, and he’s really stepped up to the Z&F Fanart Challenges thus far! Not ONLY did he send in this hilarious final panel (taking things quite literally), but he also designed a cereal box, AND submitted a “Famous Duo” earlier this year! Kim’s own comic PicPak features the crazy antics of cats and dogs. Presumably, REAL cats and dogs, but one never knows.. they could really be aliens. Nonetheless, Kim brings the cute and the funny, so you Z&F reader should go check it out!

I think my favorite part of this last panel is the Weird Kid’s response though… doesn’t that sound completely like him? Or maybe it should have been “about nothing”, LOL. Or, “about GLUE!”. Also digging Zorphie’s parade on the background. Who knew being lazy and uncooperative would get you a elephant-laden parade?

Thanks so much Kim! Have a terrific weekend!

Here’s Chris’ full entry, which I condensed down to fit into the panel nicely. Great work!

Google+ Buddy Christopher L., a writer for a technology blog at the ripe age of 14, decided to take the Z&F Fanart Challenge! So, what exactly happened after the “FOOOP” sound effect? Well, that’s the sound of being warped to your own private island! Looks like the manager’s motives backfired big-time! And now he has a strange yellow sponge mutant who lives in a pineapple on his tail. Scary!

Nice SpongeBob reference there, Chris! And how timely, considering they JUST took an island vacation recently! Thanks for taking this season’s Fanart Challenge! For anyone else who thinks they have a funny punchline to insert here, swing by the Fanart Challenge page for the full rules and such. The bribe: you could win ad space right here on Z&F for an entire SIX MONTHS!!!!

Finish a Comic, Enter to Win FREE Ad Space!

Yup, new season here at Zorphbert & Fred, new FANART CHALLENGE! This time around, it’s as simple as writing/drawing the final panel of a comic! (for those of us who are creators, yes, not as easy as it seems, but… shhhhhh!)  Swing over to the FANART CHALLENGE page and see what comic I have offered up for your.. um.. improvement? Corruption? Brilliant parody? It’s up to you! Just take the sound effect “FOOOOP” and decide what happens.

The contest runs until Nov. 29th, and then the voting begins in December! The WINNER will get that special ad space, now ruled by Jon Esparza.

Baltimore Comic Con! Like, TOMORROW! (and Sunday)
