Kaitou (Don Koch) Takes the Fanart Challenge!

FanartChall_kaitou

I present to you, the Final Entry!

Squeaking in at the last second is this entry by Don Koch of the goody stick figure comic Kaitou. Don decided to take the sound effect in a completely different direction– instead of weird things happening to Zorphie (like his costume being inflated), the squirrel manager expands into one GIGANTIC varmint! FOOOP! That’ll scare Zorphie into cooperating, methinks!

For funny musings by a stick figure, a disgruntled blog, a Sprite Stick-Figure Cat Girl (yes, indeed) and their odd conglomerate of friends, head over to Kaitou!

Ready to VOTE? It begins next Friday!

Keep an eye on this blog section NEXT Friday 12/13 to start voting on the Z&F Fanart Challenge entrants! Who will reign supreme and take over that coveted ad space?

Rainey Takes the Fanart Challenge– THREE times!

FanartChall_FOOOP_Rainey

Longtime reader and aspiring cartoonist himself, Rainey accepted the challenge… and showed it who’s boss by sendign me THREE entries! I figured it would be fun to make an animated GIF for you all, to showcase all 3 entries! In case you can’t read the text, the transcript is below:

Entry 1: “BRRR! Whose idea was is to put air conditioners in these suits?”
My air conditioner units need to make more of a FOOOP noise when turned on!

Entry 2: “Due to the revealing (in more ways than one) nature of this ending, I can’t show a picture. Lets just say the button was a self-destruct switch, and Zorphbert screamed “AHHHH, I’m naked!”
I got a good chuckle out of this, because Rainey is sort of poking fun at the fact that I NEVER show Z&F out of their costumes!

Entry 3: “I had that button booby trapped with 1000 volts. Was that a shock to you”?
OOOooooOoohhhhh pun-tastic! And yes, “FOOOOP” is totally the sound of an electrocuted squirrel-alien.

Thanks so much for your entries Rainey! Guys, swing by Rainey’s Tumblr page to read his comic “Reaper’s Legacy”, which is the funny, clever story of training the next Grim Reaper! I mean, the first one needs to retire already, no?

Better HURRY! LAST WEEK to submit entries!

Trying to get a few more in before I/we vote in December! Don’t have a lot to vote on this season– maybe I picked a comic that was too hard to finish? Please swing by the Fanart Challenge Page for the full rules and email your entry to DAWN AT ZFCOMICS DOT COM!

ASL_Nov13_FFWell, how COOL is this?

This is a first for me. And just in general, really. A local art gallery is celebrating comics, cartoonists, illustrators and sequential art with a very special “First Friday” gallery show! For those not in the “know”, First Friday is a long tradition in the fine art communities, where on the first friday of the month, art galleries open their door at free admission and celebrate the arts…. usually accompanies by wine & appetizers.

The Details!

When: November 1st, 6pm-9pm

Where: “Art Space” Gallery
25 S. Lansdowne Ave, Lansdowne PA 19050

Also featuring:

  • JAMES LINCKE – Illustrator, Cartoonist and Filmmaker
  • artists from Locust Moon Comics, Andrew Carl, Dave Proch, Chris Stevens & Rob Woods

If you’re in the Philly area and looking for something fun and cheap (*ahem* FREE) to do, why not head to downtown Lansdowne, right by Baltimore Pike, and support local artists!
