FanartChall_ColoringBk_Davis

These past couple weeks a few artists have jumped on theĀ Fanart Challenge filling my inbox with awesome. The first to roll in is from David Davis of Cosmic Dash (a comic I HIGHLY recommend if you enjoy the sci-fi cuteness of Z&F!). Now you colorists out there have options! David certainly shares my “cuteness” so his take on Z&F feels natural but also somewhat slicker & friendlier! Head to the Fanart Challenge page to download this lineart file to color… or come up with your own lineart design of my guys! Lets creates some awesome pinups!

Upcoming Appearance

In just 2 weeks, I’ll be exhibiting at the new Amazicon POP Culture Collector Event at the Clarion Hotel (near the airport) in Essington, PA! It’s my first show of the year and I’m quite excited to get back into the swing of things. On hand, I’ll have the BRAND NEW Z&F Minibook, a preview of volume 4! Also, I just updated my new Tip $1 TAKE 1 box, and it offers a lot more fun stuff for just a $1 tip! Buttons, magnets, keychains, and signed mini prints!

We have our first COLORIST for this season’s Fanart Challenge! If you’ve been reading Z&F for a while and comment, you may know Darryl Heine as he’s been a longtime dedicated fan of Z&F! And he’s not afraid to take on ANY challenge, as proven HERE and HERE. As soon as the official challenge proposition was posted, Darryl jumped on it and within a day or so sent me this piece! He did a great job, amiright?

NOW, what we need is MORE Inkers!

If you ever wanted to try your hand at drawing Z&F, now’s the time! Send me your lineart drawing of the guys, so I can add it to the Fanart Challenge page for others to jump on board and color! Having OPTIONS to color will definitely get this ball rolling. Come June, we can vote on the best full-color fanart pin-up piece!

Fanart Challenge COLORING BOOK: Garibay

This piece was already posted during the off-season, but since it spawned the entire idea for this season’s Fanart Challenge, it deserved to be posted again!

Mike Garibay is a Philly area caricaturist I met at a local craft fair. On a whim, he send me this great pinup of the guys in his style… and that little mask on Fred’s head STILL makes me giggle! This piece is available to color on the Fanart Challenge page, and…. *whispers* it’s ALREADY been colored by one early bird! Look for that next week!

Kicking off the new season with a new fun Z&F Fanart Challenge! This time it’s all about drawing, or coloring, whichever you prefer! With teamwork, we’ll gather some lineart artists and some detailed colorists and make some outstanding pinups of those 2 awesome aliens! ALL entries will end up in the next printed collection too!

This was inspired by Mike Garibay who sent me an awesome lineart drawing, in his style, of Z&F during this off season… and I thought how neat it would be to post it for you guys to color!

Head over to the Fanart Challenge Page to read up on all the rules and to submit your entry! The WINNER, chosen by Z&F readers via a poll in June, will get that coveted ad space for a whole 6 MONTHS!

Need YOUR feedback on the Exclusive Ebooks!

feedback

If you keep up with the site or follow me on social networks, chances are you may have heard about the “Exclusive Ebook” that’s been available this off-season. I’ve been relentlessly promoting it and letting people know exactly what it entails and how my new webcomic format works … but now I need your feedback! I wasn’t sure what to expect in terms of sales and success with this format as it ISN’T the normal “always free online, but please buy a book” webcomic business model. Lets just say I’m wondering what YOU think.. and will base future decisions on this info. Heck, with fundraising/subscription platforms like Patreon catching steam, I may choose to go that direction.

First, if you need a briefer…

To break it down, my new business model for the last year has been this:

  • 4 months per season, followed by 2 months “off-season” break.
  • New comics are posted 1x a week on Mondays, HOWEVER, I actually create DOUBLE that amount each season.
  • Those extra comics (plus the ones posted online) are collected into an “exclusive ebook” and offered for a low price ONLY during the following off-season.
  • Once the next season starts, the exclusive ebook goes into the “space vault” forever. Yeah, like Disney DVDs.
  • The exclusive comics will never be posted online… but they WILL appear in the printed volumes and subsequent ebooks once finished.
  • It’s a way to still offer free content, but entice readers to chip in a LITTLE BIT to read twice the comics… before the print volumes come out.
  • Oh, you wanna BUY it? You have until March 3rd! Head to the STORE!

Take the Exclusive Ebook Poll!

I appreciate your support and feedback! And remember…..

The NEW SEASON of Zorphbert & Fred Starts MONDAY! (March 3rd!)
