The Premier of “Bax & Cleo” brought to you by Vet Depot! (and me!)

As mentioned in an earlier post, I have been commissioned to write & draw a monthly comic strip for Vet Depot, a big competitor of the popular 1-800-Pet-Meds. The names of the characters, as chosen in a facebook poll, are Baxter and Cleocatra, AKA “Bax & Cleo”!

And the very first comic just went LIVE! Click on the image below to view it, and don’t forget to LIKE Vet Depot on facebook, CIRCLE on Google+, and FOLLOW on twitter! This company offers all the pet supplies you need, plus an informative blog and the people there are so friendly and helpful! Their prices are the same if not better than 1-800-Pet-Meds, so if you are a pet owner, this is a great site for you to consider!

Now, as for the comic itself, Bax the dog and Cleo the cat is a classic Looney Tunes or  Tom-and-Jerry type concept. Bax is silly and playful, and quite gullible as he always falls for Cleo’s clever pranks. However, the lovable hound is no doormat; he’ll find his own slapstick way to get revenge on the jokster kitty! “Bax & Cleo” is a cute comic for the whole family, and I hope you enjoy it! Seeing as a lot of Z&F fans are also pet owners and enjoy the pet aspect of the comic here, I think “Bax & Cleo” will be a hit for any Z&F reader as well!

Announcement: Comic Strip for VetDepot.com!

I am super excited about this one, guys. If you recall my appearance at PetMeds Blog, where Z&F was featured with a book giveaway, well… I was contacted shortly after by a competitor called Vet Depot. I have been commissioned to write & illustrate a once-a-month (for now) comic strip that will post on the Vet Depot Blog! The first task was designing the characters, which is a cat and dog duo (shown here), and now they need to be named! Vet Depot is posing the question to its followers on Facebook, and a lucky winner will get some free treats for their dog or cat! I can’t wait to see what names are chosen for these characters! The name of the comic will be the character’s names, much like.. hey!– “Zorphbert and Fred”!

Stop by on facebook to submit suggestions for names, and while you’re there, “like” their page!!!

I ramble on and on at “Don’t Pick the Flowers”

David Hurley, of the blog & comic “Don’t Pick the Flowers” interviewed me recently, and it posts today! I yammer on about my inspiration for Z&F, old favorite comics, Abby’s Adventures and more! Swing by and give ‘er a read!

Cool New Comic on the Horizon: Finding Gossamyr

A friend of mine, David Rodriguez of the awesome Shadow Girls, is coming out with a new comic and I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek of the first chapter! “Finding Gossamyr”, under 3rd World Studios (a great bunch of guys) is a fun all-ages tale about a young math genius who discovers a new fantastical land by solving an age-old math puzzle. The artwork by Sarah Ellerton (Yes, THAT Sarah Ellerton) is phenomenal as always; her style is very sitting for a family-friendly fantasy comic. While I cannot share with you the full chapter, I CAN share some gorgeous artwork examples from the chapter on 3rd World’s flicker page. Mosey on over and be amazed!

Fanart Friday: My Other Passion

Mar16

If you follow me on twitter, facebook or G+, you probably know where my OTHER passion lies…. Cleveland Sports. Born & raised just outside Cleveland in a little town called South Euclid, I was brought up on the Cleveland (and Ohio State) teams: Browns, Cavaliers & Indians. Nowadays, with the help of the internet & social media, I can keep in touch with other fans even as a lonely transplanted fan in Philly. When LeBron James dished out his “The Decision” on ESPN for world to witness, and Cleveland’s collective heart was shattered, I “watched” it on twitter… I had other fans to lean on, commiserate with. But the fun new addition to this connection is the ability to COMBINE my 2 passions — by drawing a Cavs-themed comic for the fan-made, 90’s-punk-inspired “Cavs Zine” (Issue #2) about their controversial owner Dan Gilbert. (For the record, I’m on Dan’s side, but can poke fun at him all the same.. That’s what us cartoonists do!)

I was honored last year to be apart of Cavs Zine #1, and looking forward to doing more! Read more about the Cavs Zine HERE, and if you would like to order one (instead of find one in local downtown Cleveland bars and such) click HERE.

Fanart Friday: Returning the Favor

As you guys have seen this week, I have a lot of wonderful gracious friends who find the time to whip up some guest strips for me, so I can get a breather. Of course, if you know me, you know a “breather” will end up being a new word for “more work”. I spent the last 2 weeks cranking out fanart for fellow cartoonists who inspire me, impress me, or who have shown their support for me and Z&F over the years. Just as a way to say THANK YOU.

So, how about some linkage so you can see these pieces as well?? While you’re at it, please check out their awesome comics as well…. hey, if I like it and you read my comic, you’ll probably like these as well. (Some are rated R, kids… please ask your parents!)

Capes and Babes has pop culture references a-plenty (and a WEREWOLF!)

Dog Eat Doug overdoses on the cuteness with a baby AND a puppy!

Zombie Boy brings the weirdness and paranormal adventures for those with edgier tastes.

A Dog’s Life’s is yet more doggie adventures for you pet lovers, include time-travelling. Woof!

Devil’s Panties (Rated R!) is a sketchbook diary of sorts, by a women who marches to the beat of her own drummer (and in some CRAZY boots!)

Girls With Slingshots (Rated R!) follows Hazel and polar-opposite buddy Jamie through the adventures of adult life, with booze and talking cactus in hand.

"Capes and Babes" by Chris Flick

"Dog Eat Doug" By Brian Anderson

"Zombie Boy" by Mark Stokes

"A Dog's Life" by Chris Otto

"Girls With Slingshots" (Rated R!) by Danielle Corsetto

"The Devil's Panties" (Rated R!) by Jennie Breeden

————————————————————————————————————-

And I still have SO many more people to thank. I mean, just from the plethora of pieces I got for the Wedding Guest Art marathon (it gave me like 3 month off!), that’s a tremendous amount of support. Support that I’ll try to slowly return as I find the time. Again, many many MANY thanks!

Team Cul De Sac

Team Cul De Sac Book for Parkinson’s

My donation piece for the Team Cul de Sac Project

Over a year ago, Chris Sparks launched Team Cul De Sac, a fund-raising site for Parkinson’ Research and part of TeamFox, which is part of the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Chris is friends with Richard Thompson, of the syndicated comic Cul de Sac, and who also struggles with Parkinson’s Disease. As a fan of Richards work, and actually having met him at the Baltimore Comic Con in 2010, I really wanted to submit a piece. Seeing that awesome cartoonists like Bill Amend, Lynn Johnston, Danielle Corsetto, Brian Anderson and even the great Bill Watterson were also submitting their work… I was humbled and very aware of my odds to be accepted into the published book. However, at least my piece would be auctioned off to raise additional money, so I felt good about that.

I am VERY please to say that my piece WILL in fact be included in the book, along with the contributors on the list. You can pre-order the book here, so please consider this awesome deal. Not only do you get this wonderful collection of artists’ Cul de Sac renditions, but all proceeds will be going to people like Richard who has to cope with such a debilitating disease. It’s a win-win if you ask me.

Also, a congrats to friends Brian Anderson, Carolyn Belefski, Norm Feuti, Ed Held, D.M. Rolfe, and Lucas Turnbloom on being in the book with the rest of these wonderful cartoonists. In many cases, we are in the company of our own role models and childhood heroes.
