Ken Drab, Antoine Gagnon, Irma Erikkson and I will be there! somewhere.... in the masses....

We’re Ready, Are You?

With an attendance reaching almost 100,000 last year, NYCC is expected to be even more insane this year. Saturday is ALREADY sold out, and if Saturday was anything like I remember last year…. well, I’m going to be happy I have a table to hide behind. If you are only deciding now to go (on Thursday, Friday or Sunday), I suggest you snatch up a ticket online ASAP. If you already have your precious tickets, well then here’s where you can find us (though it might take a compass and a pack of hound dogs)….

That's Tables P-5 and P-6! Click to enlarge!

Did you know– the Alliance will be celebrating its 1st year anniversary on October 13th! Yup, we’ve been around for almost a year now, sharing advice, tutorials, videos and our growingly popular Workshop Podcast!

What will I have?

Well, my usual! BOTH Zorphbert & Fred collections, a Con-Exclusive Mini-Book, three Abby’s Adventures books for the kiddies, buttons and pendants, and of course I’ll be doing commissions and sketchcards too!

A Little About My Friends:

Ken Drab, mastermind behind Rick the Stick has a special treat for you, come see him at his table and see his very own views on current super heroes!
Yours truly, Antoine Gagnon and his Drunken Fools, will be drunk somewhere in a corner. But more specifically offering you with SHINY USB Keys, Beer Coasters and Drunken Superheroes (free hugs too!)
Finally, the Alliance crew will be joined by Irma Eriksson, creator of the great comic Imy the Comic. Flying from Sweden for the show, rest assure she will be there to ROCK the house!

Fanart Friday: Chris Flick & InterventionCon

Hey Look, it’s ME!

It’s fun to know you make enough of an impression at a convention to wind up in someone’s comic. Not that it was my first time meeting him, but Chris Flick of “Capes and Babes”  felt it necessary to include me in one of his latest comics. Here’s a single panel that features me (ironically in PINK, heaven forbid!) along with new buddy Ben “Tovias” McCormick of Reality Amuck (and of course Roy the werewolf). Click on it to read th rest of the comic! I suppose this makes up for the fact that usually Chries is sneaking up and pelting me with tootsie rolls at conventions. Oh, who am I kidding, I love candy warfare.

But, I won’t forget this usage of PINK, Chris. That was a low down dirty trick… you are ruining my tomboy cred, man. You wouldn’t want me spreading the word about your love of Twilight and sparkly vampires, would ya?

So, in case you haven’t already, check out Chris’ fun little side of the internet– about a strip mall, a comic book shop, and a werewolf. And a woman who loves her power tools, how cool is that?!

Intervention Con Recap

Back from a fun weekend in Washington DC! (actually nearby Rockville, MD)  This convention was a bit different than most, as it’s based on internet culture as opposed to comic books/pop culture, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. The experience was both good and bad, actually. First, the downside. The convention itself wasn’t profitable enough to return next year. Seems as though “Internet Culture” just isn’t my crowd. The upside however is Onezumi and Hartnell have cultivated such a positive and sociable atmosphere that networking was easy and fun, and the creators were made to feel very welcomed with an even playing field among other guests. The hotel was beautiful and everyone was friendly and helpful. The webcomic-creator dinner I helped plan for 16+ people at a nearby brewery restaurant was the cherry on top. I had a blast. And I wish everyone involved with Intervention Con in the future the best of luck, I really hope this convention can flourish as the people in charge certainly have their heads and hearts in the right place.

A huge shout-out to my Intervention buds— my table-buddy TL Collins of Bullfinch, my other table-buddy Chris of Capes and Babes, Liz Staley of Adrastus, Will & Kate of Binary Souls / Other Dimensions, Eric and Brittany of Snow by Night, Travis and Jennifer of Hainted Holler, Carolyn of Curls (among other things), Jennie Breeden of Devil’s Panties, Chris & Ben of A Dog’s Life, plus many more I am failing to list (sorry!). I had a great time guys… oh, and by the way… “I read your webcomic…. Penny Arcade Sucks!”

OOOooooo… Video Footage…

Check out this great video tour of the floor by Tony DiGerolamo of Super Frat! Includes interview with creators (Such as ME!), after party events and lots more!

Read my more in-depth review of the convention over the Webcomic Alliance!

Now for the Pics!

It’s time again to take Z&F on a roadtrip around the East Coast, for another convention. This one is a bit different than the usual comic conventions, and I’ll be interested to see how successful it is in comparison. Despite the odd name of “Intervention” which has other connotations of course, Intervention is Internet + Convention… and all the fun stuff that exists online brought to you in person! In The Washington DC area, at least. This includes many popular webcomics, like Z&F and my table-mate’s TL Collin’s comic Bullfinch. Plus lots of fun panels, programming, children’s events and workshops! Well worth $20 or so, to fill up an afternoon with live in-person stuff you usually find wandering the interwebs, holed away inside your house. Step away from your computer and join us in the Real World this weekend! :0)

Here’s The Run-Down:

September 16-18 2011
Hilton Washington DC/Rockville
1750 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland 20852

The hours for the Vendor and Artist’s room will be:
Friday: 2pm to 8pm
Saturday: 10am to 7pm
Sunday: 10am to 3pm
