It’s these type of magazines that make me wonder about A: those who have to write them, and B: those who legitimately read and even BELIEVE them. I mean… seriously:

And a special thanks to my twitter pal, Jande (Eccentric Orbits) for helping me come up with this idea. Twitter is a blessing when a cartoonist is grasping at straws for what to tackle next. Jande reminded me it’s time to go back to the roots of the strip– aliens.

My Webcomic Alliance pals and I kick it off in Chicago next weekend, for C2E2 Comic Con! We’ll be in the Webcomic Pavilion (yes, we get our OWN “pavilion”!)…. to sell books, talk shop with other cartoonists, do commissions, and if you listen to our podcast, probably bash each other left and right. It’s what we do best, really. So if you are in the area, make sure to stop by and behold geekery at its finest!

I just absolutely love these magazines..I’ve never procured one mind you, but I love perusing them while standing at the checkout. Growing up I always remember my mom buying these from time to time, but she really enjoyed the Enquirer…which really is nothing more than one of these magazines just with celebrities on them. I think they should mix the genres, then we could read Titles like “Bat Boy is the love child of Ru Paul and Tom Cruise – Photos inside”. That, I would buy.
LOL! That’s great… I agree, that would spruce things up a bit, AND it appeals to the celebrity-news-junkies and the dorks like us that get a kick out of the weirdo news.
As a kid I remember when I evolved from MAD to Weekly World News. I don’t know when I reverted back but maybe it is b/c WWN went out of print.
I never Evolved, just like Winnie below… Mad it is, and always will be.
Wait… my copy with the Redneck Alien cover never was delivered! 🙁 Just kidding – I by them off the shelf these days – gotta do my part to keep crappy news alive…
Just kidding – I’ve never bought or seen anyone buy them. But I do have a few Soap Opera magazines, which are alien at times to me, too…
Bearman, I never graduated from MAD – the 10-year-old girl in me (when I started subscribing to the magazine) wouldn’t let me.

wait – when did they start up Weekly World News as its own publication again? Up here in Canada, it’s a special section of the Sun tabloid. And did they bring back Ed Anger?
No one should say anything bad about buying that type of magazine, since we all buy our ‘fun’ magazines.
