I am deathly afraid of spiders, and I’m not sure where that came from specifically. Makes no logical sense. Takes me forever to work up the guts to kill one, yet I can smash cockroaches at work for coworkers. Go fig.
As for Rick, aka “Male Human”, I’m not even sure what he fears. I know he has a powerful sense of smell, and “fears” rotting food in the trash can… but that’s not quite the same. I do now he also “fears” my competitiveness, in the midst of the playoffs when one of my Cleveland teams actually makes it… I can be pretty scary. I’ll admit it.
Be sure to check out my Philly Comic Con Recap for awesome pictures and stories from last weekend’s convention! Here’s an adorable pic to tease ya:
Spider-Cat, Spider-Cat, does whatever she’s afraid of that…
there’s a scaredy-cat joke in there somewhere…
I too have a fear of spiders that mostly resulted from going down into my grandmothers basement after cutting her grass for a cold pop using the outside steps. Halfway down I was covered in spiderwebs and spiders. Lots of them. Irrational panic stepped in and my fight or flight response quickly shifted to flight and I ran up the steps and slammed closed the heavy steel door that covered the steps. It resulted in me being covered in spider bites and my not getting a pop that day.
Wow, Vince – that… yeah, I wouldn’t want to drink soda, go into basements, or cut grass for years after that. Seriously. I’m sorry you had that experience.
I like that they put “financial ruin” as a fear. I can imagine a lot of people, though they wouldn’t remember to cite it when asked (I know I’m crappy when asked “on the spot”), have that fear. And then they’re livin’ in a van, down by the river! (Sorry, I miss Chris Farley.)
Winnie, “financial ruin” sounded far worse than “money issues”.. and more like something Zorphie would say. I think that’s a pretty basic fear… and yes, not one that is typically cited, like you said.
Thanks for sharing your story Vince… excuse me while I go in the corner and itch for 3 days straight.
Seriously tho, that’s pretty scary… and the fact that you say “pop” and not soda. I grew up saying “pop” back in CLE but have converted.. I assume you lived elsewhere?…. as they don’t say “pop” here in the Philly area.
I think the scariest spider I had ever seen was at a friend’s house when I was a kid… It was hanging out in their kitchen.. this thing was tarantula sized.. even their cat ran away from it! Not the sort of thing you see a lot of in southern NJ!
I’m afraid of spiders and hate slugs. It’s not a fear of slugs, I just hate them. They constantly jeer at me and one of them owes me money. What’s not to hate?
Ironically, I, for one, am afraid of both spiders and people with Fred’s poor organizational skills! 🙂
