Hi again folks! For this month’s caption contest, I changed the format a bit. The results from the poll I ran a couple weeks back said the majority of you readers preferred a longer format, with multiple panels and bubbles to write, so I shall abide! I hope the open-ended layout gives you more of a chance to be creative and come up with a funny entry! But, first, some rules of course:
1. Remember this is a kid-friendly site, okay?
2. You can post up to 3 entries. Separate comments, please.
3. The number of balloons and what character is speaking in each panel is up to you. Make sure you notate which character is saying what. I’ll take care of laying it out.
4. The previous winner is invited to play, but is ultimately ineligible this round (sorry!)
5. WINNER GETS FREE FANART FROM ME! (if you do not have a comic, I can whip up a caricature!)
Due date is this Thursday, by 8pm EST. The winner will be announced on Friday! Now, get to it guys!
Panel 1:
Zorphbert: I suppose now would be an appropriate time to exercise your mind’s eye, Fred.
Fred: How so?
Panel 2:
Zorphbert: Simply gaze up into the sky and look at the clouds. Tell me what they appear to be similar in shape to.
Fred: They look like clouds…
Panel 3:
Zorphbert (off-panel): Er, yes, but what do they look like? This is an exercise in IMAGINATION! Take that one, it looks like a duck, does it not?
Fred: Ooooh…
Panel 4:
Fred: Oh! THAT one looks like a really fluffy, um, CLOUD!
Zorphbert: Nnnnng.
Panel 1:
Zorphbert: It should amaze me, the intricacies of this vast universe, and sometimes it succeeds in doing so.
Fred: Yeah, it’s pretty…
Panel 2:
Zorphbert: No, it’s far more than that! Imagine the complexities that governed the creation and movement of all the various masses that encompass all of existence!
Fred: I like shooting stars too…
Panel 3:
Zorphbert (off-panel): Look up at the sky, Fred! Can you even grasp how incredibly small this planet is amidst such greater and grander forces?!
Fred: Oh, I see what you mean!
Panel 4:
Fred: Like that airplane! Look at it fly in the sky!
Zorphbert: Nnnng.
OKOKOKOK… here it goes…
*ahem*…
First panel:
Zorphbert: So, what are you thinking about?
Fred: Well, I’m just wondering who is out there?
Second panel:
Fred: I mean, what kind of creatures are they? What are they like?
Zorphbert: ???
Third panel:
Fred: Imagine, they could be all green, covered with tenacles, ugly…
Fourth panel:
Zorphbert: Nnnnng…
Fred: It would be neat to meet one of them someday.
Panel 1:
Fred: “You ever wonder why we’re here?”
Zorphbert: “Because, we have a job to do.”
Panel 2:
Fred: “No, I mean in the grand scheme of things”
Zorphbert: “To return home once the job is complete.”
Panel 3:
Fred: “Sigh, I know why the humans like me better.”
Panel 4:
Fred: “Because I’m a great listener.”
Zorphbert: “NNNnngggg”
OKOKOKOK… here it goes… again… (kay… kay… kay… here we go… kay…)
*ahem*… (breath… calm down…)
First panel:
Zorphbert: Its amazing that a primitive species as humans can live like this.
Fred: Well, I don’t think they’re that bad off.
Second panel:
Fred: I mean, they show real promise.
Zorphbert: How so?
Third panel:
Fred: Someday, they might even be able to build machines that can fly.
Fourth panel:
Zorphbert: Nnnnng…
Fred: Just like that noisy bird that doesn’t flap its wings.
I skipped the headline and then scratched my head confused thinking, “uhhh where is the dialog??”
Then I scrolled down and felt stupid.

I did mine visually since it’s easier for me to come up with ideas that way. 🙂
Had similar thoughts to some:
Z: You ever ponder where you come from
F: Don’t I come from the same place as you?
F: A planet far far away. In fact you can almost see it.
F: Third star to the right, and straight on till morning.
1: F: I wanna be an astronaut when I grow up.
2: Z: Seriously?
F: What?
3: F: Zooming through space, visiting distant planets, fighting aliens…
4: F: And I wonder if that big Moon-shaped ball of cheese is any good.
Z: NNNNNNG.
thanks everyone! I guess the longer format appeals to more of you than I would have thought! I figured it might be harder… what do I know? ;0)
Here is my entry:

Ok. Let’s give it a shot.
1:
Z: you know, sometimes your attention span is rather short.
2:
F: what do you mean?
Z: Ok, let me show you. Tell me what you did today…
3:
F: well… let’s see… I woke up at 9, had my breakfast and after that I —
4:
F: oh look, a cloud shaped like a bunny! How cute!
PANEL ONE
FRED: “$4.99 All-You-Can-Eat Special. I’m telling you, Zorphbert, you can’t find a deal like THAT in any galaxy.”
PANEL TWO
FRED: “I had tacos, hot wings, hamburgers, mashed potatoes, ribs….I ate everything they had in the place.”
PANEL THREE
FRED: “Including the forks, spoons, and napkins. But that’s okay, you always said I needed more roughage in my diet! BURP!”
PANEL FOUR
ZORHBERT: “Ngggg”
FRED: “Hey, is that new Thai buffet place open yet?”
Sorry, I’m havin’ brain cramps. I got nothin’. I never did think I was better than you anyway.
Ok. A really silly one, just because I just saw something funny in the drawings 😛
(sorry Dawn)
1
Z: I still don’t know what you mean with that you can ‘shift space’
F: I’ll show you.
2
F: now you are on my right side, yeah?
Z: yeah… so?
3
F: aaaand…..
4
F: now you are on my left side! Explain me that, my friend!
—
I know. It’s not even remotely funny… but I just couldn’t help myself 😀
I LOL’d. Good pickup. Too bad most people wouldn’t understand, though, if it won the contest.
Ha ha, sometimes even us cartoonist geniuses get spacial relations confused. I had to really study the comic to realize you were right! I meant to “move the camera” to show the other angle… and didn’t flip which way they were facing.
major D’oh!
Frame 1
Zorphbert: What exactly are we doing out here?
Fred: We’re going to count all the stars in the sky.
Frame 2
Zorphbert: First of all it’s not even dark outside yet. Secondly, you know you can’t count all the stars.
Fred: I have a plan, you’ll see.
Frame 3
Fred: We are going to wait here until it starts to get dark, then count the stars as they come out one at a time.
Frame 4
Fred: There’s one!
Zorphbert: Nnnnng.
