Please, you had any doubt that Fred’s favorite movie is “Pretty in Pink”?

My goal for tomorrow: refer to my friend (who is a Pretty in Pink fan) as a “Duck-head” and point her to this comic. I’m pretty sure she’ll take Fred’s side.
Let us know if you make it through the day without getting hit.
She called me a duck-hole. I don’t know if that means I’m bi-winning.
yeah, ha.. do yourself a favor and don’t call her a “duck head” until AFTER the reads the strip, Jeff.
oops, looks like I was too late. “duck-hole”, ouch.
Noted for next time. Good timing was never my strong suit.
I hated that movie (even though I now have “Isn’t she preeeety? Prety in Piiiiink…” playing in my head right now).
I was one of those ones that always felt Duckie got robbed in that movie and never really cared for Andrew McCarthy’s character in that movie.
You know, originally, the story was that Duckie was supposed to end up with Molly Ringwald’s character but that ending was later changed when test audiences said they wanted Andrew and Molly to end up with each other instead.
That was before the geek revolution. If the movie were remade today (hahaa, “if” – like Hollywood has new ideas) Duckie would definitely get the girl.
My fav John Hughes movie was Some Kind of Wonderful. Probably because I SO related to Watts in HS. Just replace the drumsticks with a basketball. And a sharpie.
I did find myself rooting for Duckie as well Chris.. he was my kinda guy. Watts and Duckie woulda made a good couple. Yknow.. if Eric Stolz’s character got the preppy girl in the end. Which is what kinda happened in Pretty in Pink. Ow, my head. What year is it again?
Kind of a shame Andie and Duckie ended up together originally. But I guess it shows people can change, and there are some “nice” rich kids. Pshhh… like we believe that, right???
I’ve got your back Fred, that was one of my favorite movies too. Wow, someone must’ve gone thru and cleaned up the place if all Zorphbert found were beer bottles. 🙂 No vials of Tiger Blood or powdery residue. May want to check the closet, just in case someones locked themselves in there cowering for their life. 🙂
I’m almost ashamed to admit that when I read “check the closet” my first thought was “for dead hookers”. Almost.
Trust me, I had thought of plenty of other paraphernalia to litter around the room, but this IS supposed to be family friendly. ;0)
“dead hookers” would not go over well. (lets hope kiddies don’t read the comments, heh)
Oop – delete at will! Sorry… sorry… (sorry)
Ah, you youngsters. See, I remember Mr. Cryer from “No Small Affair” with Demi Moore in 1984. It was a funny film and had some great lines… plus, I’m a photographer and it was every geeky photog’s dream to shot and nail a hot chick like Demi Moore. Man… sorry, got distracted.
Also, I would like to forget Cryer’s appearance in Superman 4 as Lex Luthor’s snotty nephew or whatever…. total waste of film that movie was. Love Superman, but ugh..
Oh, great strip today Dawn! 🙂
Gene Hackman? Awesome. Job Cryer? Shameful. I was rooting his character to die a horrible death and have felt cheated ever since.
Thanks Byron! I have never seen No Small Affair. Sounds like a film I’d watch if.. I were a straight guy maybe?
You know what’s a REAL shame? (and I am committing geek suicide by saying this).. I have never seen a Superman film.
*runs away bawling*
Oh, you’d love “No Small Affair”. It’s a great coming of age movie and appeals to both sexes equally. My wife loves it.
As far as Superman, see the 1978 film. It was far and away the best film made. The latest, “Superman Returns” was a great modern remaking of the 1978 film (or somewhat a sequel) but they messed a few things up. Superman catching a falling plane is awesome and he lands it on a pitcher’s mound… so you’ll like it.
🙂
I agree with Byron on Superman. Superman Returns had some majorly huge mixed reviews, but it did fall well into the storyline when viewed how it should have been. You really need to plan a Superman weekend and drop in Superman I & II, then watch the Superman Returns. Superman III and IV, just watch on their own, they aren’t very relative to the story line but are fun to watch. Richard Pryor in Superman III is really great to see. The muddled nuclear arms agenda in Superman IV doomed that script from the get go, but it’s still one that I enjoy seeing from time to time.
Brandon Routh did an adequate job of personifying the Man of Steel in Superman Returns, and I’m sure Zack Snyder will find someone just a good, but Superman to me will always be Christopher Reeve. Of course if you ask Byron he’d probably say George Reeves, who I’ll admit did a phenomenal job of Superman during his career at it.
Man, George Reeve! Yep, I was one of those silly kids that tied a towel around his neck and then would jump out of trees only to get hung up by the towel. Reeve actually had to tell kids NOT to act like him. We were so innocent back then we thought he WAS Superman… not an actor. Ah, those days are long gone.
But, Christopher Reeves IS Superman forever. Hard to beat his take on the man of steel… especially his flying poses… dead on. Sad he’s gone, but we have those films to remember him by.
Man… you want Dawn to watch ALL those films in one weekend? She’s not that nerdy… silly sports person that she is! Small steps, man, small steps!
😛
yeah but you gotta give props up to the guy… I mean, he WAS able to be a (somewhat) successful wall Street broker AND integrate seamlessly into high school while trying to hide out from mobsters.
🙂
Years ago, when they were both still young, I had heard or read an interview with Cryer where he said he always wanted to play an evil brother to Mathew Broderick – this was about the time Ferris Beuller came out. And, if you’re as old as Byron and I am, you recall that they actually looked very similar in their respective youths. That would have been great casting! 🙂
It’s only ironic that years later, he became Charlie’s dorky brother in Two and Half men…
Yes, they even made fun of the fact that he looked like Broderick in one 2-1/2 Men episode. The two would have made great film partners in the time, but oh well…
“As old as Byron and I…” Aw, man, we old farts have to hang together man!
🙂
(Wow, lots of comments today Dawn! Can you match 77 in a day… let’s try!)
😛
I agree. One year, I HAVE to get the balls to come to Chicago or you have to do the same for Heroes Con, man! 😉
broderick and cryer in the same movie? That had to happen.. back in the “Brat Pack” days?….. it didn’t? Off to IMDB!!!!! *dashes*
It was supposed to, but scientists warned Congress of a possible “awkward teen-boy actor paradox” that would unravel the fabric of spacetime. It was determined that putting Broderick and Cryer in the same film was too dangerous.
It’s amazing the amount of stars who fell into the “Brat Pack” group. It’s such a wide open group when you look at who were categorized as in the Pack back in the day and who just said they were in the pack. Look at Mellissa Gilbert who still implies she was part of the Brat Pack. You had all sorts of greats that fell into the Pack and out of the Pack. Lou Diamond Phillips, Jennifer Grey, Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe, etc., etc. etc.
I’ll have to say, my favorite “Brat Pack” star is and always will be Anthony Michael Hall. Talk about a kid who personified the awkward kid in most all his films, yet had a certain charm about him. My favorite John Hughes film will always be “Weird Science”. Robert Downey, Jr’s character in that was always great too, he played such a smooth talking jerk that you just knew he was that way in real life. John Hughes never failed to let you down with any of his films. They guy is just awesome.
My wife and I spent the weekend watching some of those films off and on! Pretty In Pink, Ferris Bueller, Bueller, Buelllers day off, Breakfast Club! Judd Nelson and I had the same hair, he stole the look from me! *groan*
Those movies are so classic. Although, where’s “Some Kind of Wonderful” in your list huh?
Yes, I’m late in the game here, but I just have to add my favorite quote from that movie, if only for the way Duckie said it.
“Blane? His name is Blane? That’s a major appliance, that’s not a name!”
Now I’m off like a dirty shirt.
ha ha, a great line at that. I have never met a Blane I couldn’t plug in. I have never met a Blane with buttons I couldn’t press.
har har.
really tho, I have never met a “Blane”.
