Sound effects PALOOZA in that middle panel. Hope it all made sense.
So, as you can see, the official name of our new character is SPROING! Much thanks to Z&F reader “Lynn” for her entry in the Z&F Mini Contest, below:
I suggest using the word that translates to “majestic helper” in Z+F’s mother tongue — Sproing!
Congrats Lynn, you have officially named a character here at Z&F! You get a free virtual pat on the back, and full bragging rights, good up until 1 year ;0)

Be on the lookout tomorrow for…… *drumroll*…..
Like the name. It’s playful but descriptive. It’s awkard to say out loud but looks good in print.
Instead of saying “Sproing”… you got to say “SprioooiNnNnnnGGG”
Great…now I am trying to say it normally.
ha ha.. I went with the same theory with Zorphbert. Now there’s a name that looks good but NO ONE can say aloud. Most of the time I wonder if that hinders the comic at all.
That is a cool and very fitting name – Lynn did a good job! I’ve always wanted to name something “Unforgiven”, just so I can say “so I dub the unforgiven…” Yeah, I’m goofy like that.
*thee – [facepalm]
Makes me think of a favorite line from Robin Hood Men in Tights: “From this day forth, all toilets in this kingdom shall be known as “Johns”!
God, cheesey movie, but it still makes me giggle.
Good Job Lynn on the name choice. Welcome to the strip “Sproing”, just hope Zorphbert doesn’t dismantle you before too long, just keep your nose and other springy parts to yourself and you should be OK.
Fred may end up smothering you with too much affection though before Zorphbert get’s tired of ya.
I see many afternoons of dress-up tea parties with Fred in the future… much to Zorphie’s chagrin. LOL
But seriously, Sproing will be a small character in Z&F’s world… he’ll come in handy when I need a 3rd helpful party (Nettika is rarely “helpful”), and will do small favors. I used “Grr” from Invader Zim as a bit of inspiration… he makes a good mascot.
Glad you dig the name!
Hokey smokes! I am beyond pleased and honored to be part of Z&F lore, especially since I thought all of the other suggestions were better!
Hope I don’t get disqualified for the virtual pat on the back ’cause I’m a fella, though! 😉
My apologies, I was tricked by your name! Congrats, and here’s a MANLY *pat on the back*. Or, would you rather have a bro-hug? Can it be a bro-hug if a woman is dishing it out? Oh, the profoundness of it all.
Happens to me all the time.. people figure I’m a guy… in webcomics, you are male until proven female, I guess.
Great name for the sparky toy! unusual name (here) for the author of the name. =D
Wonderful strip! I went form the beginning again all the way through. Love it, Dawn.
Thanks Jande, wow… that’s a lot of reading! It says something that you made it to the end and are still here, LOL. Yup, I’ll have to remember that ol’ Lynn is actually a guy. ;0P
LOL, Sproing. Cool name.
Mischievous little fella, ain’t he?
