Again, not gonna touch this stuff ever again. I’m quite happy with my coffee, and Red Bull (sugarfree) as a last resort.
I’m gonna see how many different beverages I can tackle before one of you readers stalks me down and strangles me. *grins*

they call it that old mountain dew
and the hill folks all use it for fuel…
i’m waiting for the big review on coke- considering you can use it to clean toilets, chrome, strip the gunk off battery terminals and tenderize steak. you can do anything with it but drink it
ha, oh man.. talk about FUEL…. givin’ me ideas!
I had a friend who used to donate blood. They do that drop test and his looked like sludge. They said it was probably b/c he drank 2 mountain dews every day.
eww.. seriously? oh well, everything we eat and do kills us in the end. I can’t even give blood because my thyroid is all sorts of messed up and I’m on meds.
I used to drink over 30 cokes a day (before my first heart attack) but even I seldom stoop so low as to drink a Mountain Dew. Do people not have tastebuds?
Do YOU not have tastebuds?! Mountain Dew is great, but I would rather drink used oil from a car than drink a coke.
alright alright, no flame wars over soft drinks, folks. sheesh ;0)
I just changed my oil and I think I might still have it if you want it. Meanwhile I think I’ll just have another coke.
I am still processing that… 30 a DAY?
I have cut back to about a 6 pack a day now. I just use it to suplement my coffee intake.
Now, now. We can all live in peace here. I am in the Mountain Dew camp (and clearly Dawn is not, but that’s a point for another comment 🙂 )
You either love Mtn Dew or hate it. Thus, you hate it. Now personally I cannot drink Coke or Pepsi, but live on Mtn Dew (2 or 3 cans a day easy). I’ve had oil too, and it doesn’t have enough sugar in it.
BTW… THIRTY CANS A DAY! You sir are a God… 🙂
actually, I don’t mind the taste of Mountain Dew… I just am more sensitive to the caffeine than I used to be…
another shocker: I like both Coke and Pepsi, can barely tell a difference
Man I used to Live off of Mountain Dew. That’s got a ton of Caffeine in it. We had a huge meteor shower come thru one night back in the early 90’s and we all got together out at the Coal Mine flats and downed a tone of Mountain Dew and No Dose, by the time that night was over we were all feelin a bit itchy and weirded out. That was too much stimulate at once. I can’t wait to see the affect of Mt. Dew on old Fred, he’ll be up and goin’ for hours.
Okay, No Dose AND Mtn Dew… and you guys make fun of me for smoking pot in the 70s…
Did you see angry little bunnies running around by the end of the night too? 🙂
We saw some pretty freaky stuff, telephone poles that wouldn’t quit moving, freaky looking new constellations, man we were jittery. That was too much stimulation for us, felt like we had ants crawlin on us as we came down. I would kill my boys if they did this when they get older. If we’d gotten pulled over on our drive back into town I’m sure we’d failed any sobriety test, that was one major combination.
wow, amazing what stories are dragged up when you write a doofy little strip about Mountain Dew…
Makes me wonder why Pot hasn’t been legalized if we already have all these other “stimulants” running around. Never had “ants in my pants” over smoking a couple joints. Did eat a ton of Oreos…
Ghostrunner: That song refers “Mountain Dew” a/k/a Moonshine, Mountain Nectar, Corn Squeezin’s, Hillbilly Hootch, etc. I never could figure out how a soft drink was allowed to have that name.
Have a friend in college who swore by Mountain Dew (the soft drink). While we were taking No Doz the night before exams, she was drinking Mountain Dew! Hahah
ooooh man, no-doze was the death of me in college. Took one pill and a pot of coffee for an all-nighter… lemme just say that shaking hands does NOT help whatsoever if what you need to do it click a mouse. It results in:
clickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclick d’oh! clickclickclickclickclickclickclick!
understood. grew up on the side of a mountain in a town with a population of 43. the upshot is when primestar (direct t.v.) was invented and installed at a bunch of houses, the home brew factions faded out
I was a kid when Mountain Dew first came out, late 60s/early 70s. They had a hill billy type character as part of their advertising, the line was “Yahoo – Mountain Dew” and it was most definitely “Mtn Dew”.
As for myself, strong tea is my drink of choice. It has other stimulants besides caffeine, gives a longer smoother lift than otehr drinks, high caffeine gives me the jitters and then the crash.
This won’t end well…
it wouldn’t be fun if it did! ;0)
Mountain Dew and “wussy” – those dogs are hilarious!
Oh, and boo to Dawn for keeping the peace. I wanted to see some Cola Flame Wars worthy of being in the next “we didn’t start the fire” song! 😉
It wouldn’t have lasted long anyway. I never argue with “anonymous” very much. You can’t beat that guy, he’s sneaking around eveywhere.
oh, that “anonymous”, he’s a spry one, he is.
True – anonymous has been around for centuries and sure has some good quotes… 🙂
Hey! Right now in our area they’re selling the Retro version of Mountain Dew, like from the 70’s!– in the old red, white and green 12-pack box with the Hillbilly on it, original formula.
I’d forgotten how different it tasted back then!! Made with real sugar, not syrup, and not nearly as sweet or ripped with caffeine. If you “kids” find it in your area, try it out. 🙂
I love Zorphbert and Fred. “Soothing” drink indeed. Fred’s gonna keep Zorphie up all night long… 😛
Yes, us Die Hard Mountain Dew fans have been hooked on it sense the 60s. I loved those old green bottles with the hillbilly on it.
I tried the original recipe last year and was too strong for me. Love the current stuff as I wake up with it everyday. Coffee and dark sodas (Pepsi, et al) are harder on your stomach then Mountain Dew. So, we’ve got that going for us!
hmmm, don’t think I ever had the “original” stuff. Interesting!
I cannot image drinking soda in the morning. Man, I am sounding more and more prudish… I just like my coffee to warm up to in the morning! MMm…
Are we really gonna start having the health-debate between coffee and caffeine-laced sodas? Coffee is one of those on-and-off “it’s good for you! It’s bad for you!” ebverages, but I don’t think any doctor anywhere ever said “drink soda, it’s good fer ya!”
eh, who the heck cares, as long as it perks us up.
Huh! I don’t think I’ve ever had a mountain dew. It sure *looks* innocent… Dr. Pepper is my main caffiene soft drink. savour every mouthful.
Can’t wait to see the hijinks that ensue once Fred quenches his thirst in pursuit of science. 😉
I enjoy a Dr. Pepper from time to time myself. And oh yes, there will my hijinks. You can count on that!
Okay, since I’m late to the game here since I had to work all day yesterday… let me say this…
WUSSY? Okay Dawn, you and I are gonna have a soda drinking contest in Chicago come April. Forget the beer and booze now, I’m gonna bury you with my ability to chug a Mountain Dew in about three or four swallows. Bring it girl!
🙂
Wussy?
hold the phone! I did not say Mountain Dew was wussy. It just SOUNDS wussy, to an alien who doesn’t know better. That’s the joke. Ha ha ha….?
May as well call it Jasmine Rainbows, sheesh.
I want no parts of a soda contest, I like my brain non-exploded.
I’ll have to join Byron and others at the Mt. Dewers camp, Moutain Dew is far more refreshing than other colas. I love me some Dr. Pepper, but give me Mountain Dew any day. It’s an excellent drink for long haul drives….just don’t add the no dose. 🙂
I would agree it’s more refreshing, sure.. I’ll give ya that. ;0)
Doing the Dew! Mountain Dew tastes so bizarre to me but it’s so extreme at the same time. I just want to cliff dive while skateboarding after drinking some. Great comic as always, Dawn!
Can I have a picture of you doing that? No, no… only a video would suffice, I think. Too funny!
Thanks for stopping by, man :0D
Haha, the Dew! 😛
I always wondered why they would name a drink Mountain Dew? It tastes nothing like Mountains nor Doo. I guess I should be happy, huh? 😀
Woooo the Dew! Is it the “throwback” edition? LOL…I honestly cannot taste the difference like I can the throwback Pepsi. Although now I have grown accustomed to a local supermarket’s private label version of the Dew, so perhaps all versions of the standard neon green stuff, whether throwback or modern will taste the same. I have way too much free time on my hands!
