Believe it or not, I actually had this conversation. Well, somewhat. We cartoonists have a knack for personifying anything in the name of comedy: animal, vegetable, planetary object. And when discussing when Pluto was declared a dwarf instead of a full-fledged planet, I found myself sympathizing with poor lil’ Pluto who was playing with the big boys and was suddenly, cruelly, ousted… tossed to the side. Think of all those future science classes, where teach and kids alike mock and make jokes about ol’ pathetic Pluto. It really pulls at the ol’ heart strings. Well, if you’re like Fred, that is.
Dwarf’s unite! Pluto and Tyrian Lanester unite!
is this gonna be like the ants vs the grasshoppers? Jupiter betta watch his back!
See Dat!? The weird kid gets it!
Feeling bullied and left out? He’s been there, done that!
I dig the way you mute your backgrounds when you have characters in the foreground. I know it’s somewhat standard, but it works really well here. Also, your feline expressions are right on!
Hiya Stephen, thank you! I actually haven’t done it that much but I like the way it turned out, so I’ll probably use the monotone background more often. I tend to make my panels too busy/crowded, so I need to find a way to simplify!
I indeed think Pluto should be a planet. In school we are doing end-of-the-yearish projects on space and we have to write little science bios for each planet. I did Pluto as an extra one even though I would not get credit because I think it need recognition.
