If your thought process includes internal repartee complete with puns, maybe it’s time to see a doctor. Then again, if you already have an iPad, it’s probably too late.
Hi, I’m Dawn, and I suffer from Internal Pun Syndrome. Sometimes, I cannot help myself.
I do have an iPad, but… BUT… I held out until I found a terrific deal on a used 1st Gen. Yes, that makes it better. Shut up. :0P
I love the second panel debate between Z & F, Z makes a good point, but Fred just keeps selling me on the idea of “All In One”. 🙂 I have a feeling our little Fred is going to have some iPad separation anxiety if the master takes hers with her to work one day.
Zorphbert it’s OK, use your technology to find ways to get those Eagles for free and you’ll be a master of Angry Birds in no time. 🙂
That’s why I have one – for all-in-one capability and the apps that I’ve been able to use at school. I have an overseas trip (sans family) planned and I went and got the iPad 2 (with a work discount) at the cheaper price after the recent one came out, because I like the idea of being able to have books and newspapers (and I love hardcopies) with me without all of the extra lugging around, as well as being able to Skype with my family using Wifi and just having the one thing to worry about. I gave my original iPad (gotten from my brother when he went to iPad 2 last year) to my guy.
It’s true, sometimes it’s just “the cool, new toy,” but I’ve gotten so much utility out of mine, and it makes long wait times so much better. I’ve also been able to access documents for school on something that is smaller than the size of the last Stephen King novel I read. All that being said, this was, as always, a great strip that points out exactly what we should consider before plopping down money for it or anything, really!
great stuff Winnie… I don’t think I have given my iPad enough time yet to prove it’s “more than a toy” worth. The first couple conventions may give me more ideas on how to use it. Mine, however, is the first gen, so no camera… no skype video chats… I didn’t think I needed that really, but maybe as time goes on I’ll have wished I sprung for it. We shall see.
I hurt my foot recently, and the new “expensive toy” came in handy for the long waits to get it X-rayed. I even played around in sketchbook pro and drew some pretty pictures of.. well.. Zorphbert.
I’m glad it helped there – I’m sorry you hurt your foot, and hope everything is back to 100% soon (or now)! Also, I hate the prices of cases/covers, but in case anyone is looking to protect this investment, the incase Book Jacket is good for klutzes like me who drop things or spill on themselves constantly.
I’ll admit my original ipad purchase was because I wanted a new toy. The main reason was because I was reading Anathem, which is a HUGE book; and I was traveling a lot between the place I was housesitting and my at-the-time girlfriend’s place. It became a chore to fit that book into my backpack for the constant back and forth. I could have bought a kindle, but I thought I could eventually find other uses for it. Ever since my purchase I don’t regret. Even though I don’t need it, I’m glad I have it. It does seem to make a lot of things a little easier. And while it’s not the perfect device for anyone specific task, it’s a helluva swiss army knife.
I have suggested the iPad to those who need a Kindle, it’s a great “swiss army knife” as you put it! Me, I’m not a huge reader due to lack of spare time, but I’d consider downloading books in the future for sure, especially for trips! I think this baby is gonna be terrific to have on a plane or train!

HA!!! I’ve found a valid use for mine and have mad Angery Bird skill!!
for some, a big platform for Angry Birds IS a valid reason to buy an iPad!

you know what’s sad? I haven’t played enough Angry Birds to know what an “Eagle” can do…
