I recently gave my own dog a little IQ test, she enjoys the games… and the treats. This one in the comic above is a typical test– placing a treat in or under something, to see if the dog still attempts to find & eat it. The key is that intelligent dogs will understand the treat still exists, even if they cannot see the treat. April, our dog, uses her nose, and then her paws, to flip the container and get the treat. If the container is too difficult to open or flip, she’ll sit by it and look intently & pathetically at us until we cave and give her the treat. There are plenty of other fun tests to give your dog, too. Here’s a fun one for us humans to answer, if we already know our furry friend well enough… April scored an 82!
What kind of fun tests do you give your dog? It’s a great way to challenge your dog, bond, and have fun with them too!
I also started counting how many commands/words she knows… little doggie Einstein of ours knows about 25!
If we don’t pat ourselves on the back who will?
here, here.
You have to love Fred for 1. Wanting to please the master so well and 2. Enjoying every moment of his victory, no matter how small Zorphbert feels it is. Now to try this out on my pup.
Dad-gum it, hour two my dog’s still pushing the dish around. Oh well, at least he has his looks. 🙂
hey now, pushing the dish around with his nose isn’t bad! The test is mainly about “perceived reality”. a smart dog will realize that just because he can’t SEE the biscuit, doesn’t mean it’s not THERE. Your dog knew that much, otherwise he would have given up pretty quick. Dogs that are able to flip the dish using nose/paws/mcgyver’d contraptions are the ones who have serious smarts! April tried for a while before she was able to flip it using her paws, not her nose.
I expect a parade when I get out of bed in the morning! [smirk]
Love panel 4, still laughing at that sh*t eating grin! Its something I’d do!
pshhh… the difference is you expect a parade, whereas, I GET one. Quite nice, I might add, tho it pisses off the neighbors. ;0)
Sometimes when I’m trying to occupy my mind while waiting for something, I’ll do things like the puzzles that come on pizza boxes or restaurant placemats that are designed for children. When I accomplish them, I get a sense of satisfaction like Fred just did but I also think to myself “This was just too easy.” Best not to let such accomplishments go to your head, however.
LOL, you’re definitely more of a “Fred” than a “Zorphbert” Rainey! I have done similar things myself. any victory is a victory nonetheless!
Because of the 3rd panel I could hear “girly voice” in my head 😛
well, IIIIIII never speak in a “girly voice”, so I think that girly voice in your head was already there. *wink*
Then there’s cats who will know the treat exist, but would rather say “are you freaking kidding me?” than expend the energy attempting to find it and eat it.
cats are lazy furballs. ;0)
