My parents will love this one. Though they are pretty tech-friendly with a lot of things, they still use multiple VCRs to record their favorite TV shows. Lets all shake our heads at them. :0)

When it comes to technology, I prefer this quote: “Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.”
That’s not meant to sound alarmist, certainly not while on the subject of VCRs. But techno-junkies (oh, like yourself, my dear) never see the inherent negatives of an infantile species like ours having technological power far beyond our meager capacity to appreciate and understand. Just saiyan. 🙂
No doubt I’m a tech-fanatic. A trait that’s been passed down from my grandfather, on. I realize with technology brings new problems, but overall there’s far more pros and cons. That’s usually how I make a decision- weight the P&C’s.
Funny how we only tend to appreciate things when they are missing/broken/malfunctioning. ie: my drowned iPhone.
Pros and cons are, of course, subjective. Certainly, at least the placement of information within those categories are so. And really, there’s much about technology that does fascinate me, but I lament the nearly infinite human capacity to take things for granted. We as a species are entirely too given to a sense of entitlement, and suffer greatly as a result.
Almost everything is subjective, this is true. I think the only thing I can say about technology that disappoints me about myself in particular (I can only speak for & control myself, after all), is how helpless I feel when it’s taken away. I lived in a time before cell phones or the internet, yet now it’s awfully hard to go for a week without those. I would hope that makes me appreciate it, but it’s hard to say. Better get back to worshiping Bill Gates with candles and incense!
It would be even more terrifying if they still used Beta Max!

I have debated time travel. I think, just as Calvin’s cardboard box went through “upgrades”, the doghouse could work in the same vein.
and yes, the lack of technology in those ancient times may give Zorphie a heart attack.

Yep… back in our day… we used dem new fangle VCRs, to replace dem BetaMax. And, we played Atari, and were thankful.

I didn’t get a CD player until they were just about done selling CDs. We didn’t get a DVD player until Blu-Ray was nearly on top of us. I don’t see any problem with having a VCR around. (What else is my toddler going to stick sandwich materials into?)
Well at least it’s not the old video disks!
