I toyed with a couple last lines from ol’ Zorphie.. but it seemed funnier this way. I know I tend to over-do it, so going with my brain over my instinct, LOL.
Good news: The next updates will be in COLOR! I hope to keep it up for as long as I can… I need to find a way to color a comic without it almost doubling my workload. Working with 2 shades of gray really limits what you can do, but it also expedites the process, that’s for sure.
What I’ve been up to (reminder):
I’m happy to announce the second Abby’s Adventures book “Dance Recital: and the Case of Ballerina-itis”, illustrated by yours truly, is out and ready to be bought and enjoyed with a young girl that you know! This story features Abby signing up for a ballet class, and her struggle to be the best ballerina! Of course, this story is not without Abby’s antics and humorous side stories as well.
You can purchase it directly right here. Much thanks for your support!
Good luck on the move to color, whether temporary or permanent. That’s cool that you took the poll results and your quest to keep enhancing the things you do, even when you already do them well. I’m looking forward to the next strips even more!
yup, that poll wasn’t for nuthin’! Just hope I can keep it up ;0)
Dawn, my secretary’s little girl LOVES the first Abby’s book! Her mom wanted me to tell you how awesome it was. 🙂 Look forward to the new one.
Oh, that’s great! Thanks for letting me know, I will pass on to the writer & publisher! Word of mouth is what we need right now!
Meh, it’s his own fault. Nettika paid for the hot dog, after all.
yeah, seriously.. let it go, dude.
Congrats on the book – and have fun with the color! (Long, drawn-out, time consuming fun….that is.) I’m sure it’ll look great.
LOL, don’t get me wrong, I’d LOVE to spend all day on my comics, but that pesky 9-5 job gets in the way.
Congrats on the book. I’m looking forward to the color but I really like the different shades you use now. I knew the dogcatcher was gonna be a problem.
heh, you called it! I think Z&F need a “real” foe, now that the Weird Kid has become more of a curious friend. Thanks for your compliments on my gray tones, glad they are appreciated as well!
Lookin’ forward to the Color, but just like Bo Lumpkin said, part of the draw to your strip is the shading, you are a very talented artist and I look forward to seeing the strips develop in color.
On a side note, did the Animal Control officer say “Dogs”…plural…bet that will get under Nettika’s fur.
oh man, you’re a good detective! I didn’t even realize — that should have been “DOG”, singular… I should change that! Thanks for your attention to detail!
and yes, if that was intended, it WOULD get under Nettika’s Diva fur!
personally i’ve shortened my coloring process to 1 hour. dunno how you could do that from my perspective
well, we’re about the same then.. takes me about an hour to color as well.
After I ink the comic, I create a duplicate, then I insert the shading layer between those two. Then I shade the comic in Manga Studio with no color. I then export to Photoshop and simply use the paint bucket to fill in the “bottom” layer of the inked comic. This leave the “top” layer open and it covers up any overlap that the fill tool may create. The coloring is actually the easiest step for me in most comic. I do have those where I have to create fire or lightning or explosions that take up a lot of time. Or those with complicated backgrounds (I hate those).
That’s why I continue to do them in color, it just did not save me that much time. NOW, if someone could show me how to ink faster, I’d be in heaven…
🙂
heh, well thanks for the insight on how you color! Always interesting to hear. I found 2 ways that work, takes almost the same amount of time. Both in Illustrator– one way uses the live paint tool to drop in color– but this requires you to connect all lines when you draw. The second way is just to select a thick brush and use my handy-dandy tablet laptop to literally color on a layer behind the inked lines. It’s like a coloring book! More fun than point-and-click, anyway.
Ooooh…how foreboding! Can’t wait to see what develops for the guys. 🙂
A bit of a cliffhanger, but I wish to bring back this guy (he still needs a name!) at a later point, when you almost forget about him. Love those reoccurring characters. Thanks as always George!
Hahahaha! Great stuff, as always, Dawn. Your work is awesome whether in black and white OR in color, good luck on finding a faster process that works for you.
Thanks so much!
