Announcement for Z&F
So, here’s the thing.
I have been drawing Z&F comics for nearly 6 years now. Since it became a full-fledged webcomic, I have stuck to my schedule with minimal breaks, posting 2, 3 and even for a trial period, 5 days a week. While I have an impressive work-ethic and DO love to draw my comic, we cartoonists need a break every once in a while. After all, I don’t ONLY do this for a living. I also illustrate Abby’s Adventures kids series, I write articles and do a podcast for the Webcomic Alliance, and I have this “pesky” thing called a dayjob with a 45 minute commute. Not that I want your pity, not in the least. All I am asking for is your patience.
Because, and this is key, I feel the comic is suffering due to my exhaustion. I want you awesome readers to only get the BEST comics.. art & writing…that I can offer. So, much like a TV series will take a seasonal break to recoup, and start taping the NEW episodes, I’d like to follow suit, for my health, sanity and level of quality.
So here’s the Schedule:
Next week will be the final week of THIS season of Zorphbert & Fred. The comic will be on hiatus July & August, but there will be a weekly blog post with some fun extras like sketches, videos, or a little info on what’s going on behind the scenes. So, the site will not be dormant, I will still be around. For part of the break, I will be toiling away making new awesome comics anyway! Buffers are gooooood things to have, after all.
Come September 3rd, the comics will resume, Monday, Wednesday & Friday as usual. I will also be trying to post extra bloggy goodness on Tuesdays & Thursdays, including my Clipart FAIL series, Fanart (hint, hint– free advertising!), and a new series I am planning called “Zorphie’s Mission Log” that will hopefully spur interesting discussions with YOU, the readers! That’s right, NEW content 5 days a week!
The seasonal schedule will be be 4 months ON, 2 months OFF. So, once the comics return in September, they will go straight through until the end if December, and then we’ll be on hiatus January & February. Rinse, and repeat.
Good things come to those who wait, right? Enjoy next week’s comics, mmmmmyabe I won’t leave with too much of a cliffhanger. :0)
Thanks for all your support, and I do hope you won’t forget about my little comfy spot on the Internets during the break.

Sounds like a good plan to me. I’ll stay tooned… Brian
Thanks Brian! I’ll try to make the wait worth it!
I may jump on this bandwagon, I think I could actually be more consistent with updating if I did! I applaud the decision, why not define a schedule that works for the creator? Readers will follow if they know what your doing.
that’s my hope! We cater to the readers and what other web-cartoonist (some of which don’t have a dayjob) so much, that we drive ourselves insane. Time to grab ahold of the reigns.
As you know, I’m doing a similar schedule over at 1977, and it is worth it. I’ve been off only a couple weeks and already I’m energized and ready to start drawing again. We have to recharge the batteries or we run the risk of burning out. Good for you and I’ll be here come September! 🙂
Yay, vacation buddy! Thanks for the support Byron ;0)
Absolutely makes sense. Cartoonists need holidays just like anyone else, and it sounds like things will be all the better because of it. I’m definitely not going to electronically storm off in a huff just because you take a break.
LOL “electronically storm off in a huff” … I’m not sure how that would happen, but it made me laugh. Thanks for understanding, Scott!
One more week of comics, and then hopefully a once-a-week fun post of some kind!
Oh well, so long as you let me know when you’re back 😉
oh, you’ll be hearing about it ad nauseum. :0)
Thanks for your patience!
I will defo not forget to look for your webcomic after your well deserved vacation.
I love Zorphbert and Fred!
I wish you a good vacation and hope you get some time out in the sun too <3
Huggles from rainy Denmark 🙂
Thanks so much Maria from Denmark (wow!)! Glad you enjoy the comic so much! I sure hope the return at full-force will be worth the wait for you!
I´m sure it will 😀
Oh no! This means we’ll have to wait until September to find out if Fred ever discovers what a weiner looks like. Enjoy your break, Dawn.
If it’ll improve the quality of your strip, by all means take a break. Wait, that doesn’t sound right!
Good for you! It takes a lot of courage to step down and take a break. Sometimes, it really is all about you, and you need to take care of yourself (I’m still learning that one.) Have a fantastic summer, and don’t let the weird kid in your head take over too much! *shudder*
Hope you have a nice summer hiatus. 🙂
Much needed! See ya September Dawn!
